Ryan Falconer CMILT


Ryan is an Associate of Arup and a Transport Strategist specialising in  transit-oriented development, TDM, concept design and research. He holds a PhD in Technology and Sustainability Policy, BA (1st Cl. Hons) and MSc (Dist). He has completed Masters modules through Imperial Business College (London) and the University of British Columbia.

Ryan has work experience across Australia, and in New Zealand and San Francisco. Strategic planning projects he has led have received awards through AITPM (Perth TOD Opportunities Reivew) and PIA (A Practitioner's Guide to Bus Movement and Priority). The latter was also featured in the Arup Global Research Review.

In 2010 he published his first book addressing approaches to TOD, co-authored by Peter Newman. He has also published in the NSW Public Health Bulletin, Australian Planner, World Transport Policy & Practice, New Zealand Geographer and Transport Policy, and two book chapters for the CSIRO and Ashgate. Ryan has peer-reviewed for Australian Planner, and lectured at Curtin and Murdoch Universities. He is certified by CILTA. He peer-reviewed the UN-Habitat Global Report on Human Settlements (transport) and WHO's Health Co-Benefits of Climate Change Mitigation – Transport Report. Ryan is also co-author of entries in the Sage Encyclopaedias of Transportation, and Travel and Tourism, and co-authoring three chapters in the forthcoming publication 'Boomtown 2'.

He is a member of the UDIA Sustainable Urban Development, CILTA WA and CILTA Passenger Transport Sector Committees. He is also Arup's Client Manager for LandCorp. Ryan was recipient of SKM's John Winton Medal for Technical Excellence, DoT's Workplace TravelSmart Champion Award, CILTA's National Young Professional Award and Consult Australia's Future Leader Gold Award.

In 2014 and 2015, Ryan was invited co-chair of Informa's Light Rail Conferences. He has featured several times on ABC Radio.
