WA On-demand transport reform bid

The Transport (Road Passenger Services) Bill 2018 was introduced to Parliament this week. The Bill brings regulation of the taxi and charter industry under a single, customer-centric, safety focused framework for the first time.

Expected to be passed by the end of the year, much of the reform will apply to the on-demand transport industry – this includes taxi dispatch services, ride-sourcing apps and charter vehicle operators.

Individuals and businesses that take bookings for an on-demand trip from a customer, and arrange a driver and vehicle to service that trip, will be required to be authorised as an on-demand booking service once the legislation is passed.

The reform will be implemented in stages over three years.
