There have been a number of things that may be impacting some members tax returns for the 2019/20 lodgement year especially given the impacts of COVID19. There have been a number of government initiatives and benefits that some of us may have been able to claim.

You need to keep in mind that you will be required to include all the income you received during the financial year in your tax return, including salary and wages and allowances.

To claim a deduction for expenses that relate to your work:

  • you must have spent the money yourself and weren't reimbursed
  • it must be directly related to earning your income
  • you must have a record to prove it.
