Event Description:

Professor Phil Charles will be presenting Public Transport - Context and Overview in a two part PDP.

Part A will be delivered: 1st March 2016 8.30 – 5.00 | 2nd March 2016 8.30 – 12.00
Part B will be delivered: 2nd March 2016 1.00 – 5.00 | 3rd March 2016 8.30 – 5.00

Particpants can register for either Part A or Part B or Both.

Public transport is heavily influenced by policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks and the financial environment in which services operate. This foundation course aims to provide basic skills and knowledge for public transport professionals to understand the context in which they work and how it impacts roles and responsibilities.

Course Structure

This a blended learning course, involving pre-work, which includes background readings and reflection activities, prior to attending the two 1 ½ day intensive short courses. The online pre-work has been designed to help you get the most out of the course.

Who should attend?

  • Professionals involved in planning, designing and monitoring public transport, especially state and local government staff, operators, consultants and contractors
  • Professionals new to public transport or wanting a refresher, as well as those wanting a broader understanding of public transport.

 *Articulation to the Graduate Certificate in Public Transport is available.

Part A 

1. Context of Public Transport: Explain the public transport context, including policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks

2. Strategies for Public Transport: Describe the urban transport planning process

3. Demand for Public Transport: Describe the factors that influence the demand for public transport

4. Economics of Public Transport: Identify the drivers and mechanics that impact upon the economics of public transport

5. Evaluation of Public Transport Projects: Summarise the basic principles and methodologies used in evaluating public transport projects.

Part B 

6. Public Transport Modes: Demonstrate the process of identifying, analysing and selecting public transport modes

7. Public Transport Market Perspectives: Identify the factors affecting public transport patronage

8. Business Case for Public Transport: Identify the key elements of a business case for public transport

9. Public Transport Data Collection and Analysis: Summarise public transport data collection and analysis requirements

10. Managing Public Transport Performance: Outline the basic principles and methodologies used in managing public transport performance.

Participants who complete part program with attract 30CPD | Full program 60CPD | All will receive a CILT Australia PDP Certificate.
