Description
GREENING FREIGHT TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS: EXPERIENCE, OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES
Professor Alan McKinnon is Director of the Logistics Research Centre, which he himself established at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 1997. A leading world authority on freight transport, he is an adviser to the British government, the European Commission, the OECD and many other public and private sector organisations. He has published extensively over a 30 year period on topics including the environmental impact of logistics, supply chain trends and the links between logistics and economic development. In recent years he has been involved in major studies examining the case for increasing maximum truck size and weight in the United Kingdom, road user charging for trucks, the impact of traffic congestion on the reliability of supply chains and the opportunities for cutting CO2 emissions from freight transport. Professor McKinnon holds a PhD from University College, London.
