The 15th Annual CILTA Victorian Section “Lunch with the Minister” – Young Achiever of the Year Award was held at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne on Thursday 19th November 2009.

The award, presented by Mr Tim Pallas, Minister For Roads And Ports and Major Projects acknowledges CILTA’s Young Supply Chain Professionals, known as Accelerate. The purpose for the award is to provide a positive incentive for young professionals – the future leaders of this industry - to excel in their chosen field and for organisations to encourage the pursuit of excellence and provide training of these future leaders.

The winner of the CILTA Young Achiever of the Year for 2009 was Mr Andrew Newman.

Andrew commenced with the Department of Transport as a graduate recruit in 2003 and is now a Senior Policy Manager – Freight Network Management and Regulation in the Freight, Logistics and Marine Division of the Department of Transport.

Andrew has been involved in the development and release of all key freight network and port strategy and policies released by the Victorian Government over the past 6 years and his major achievements include:

• Significant contribution to the development and implementation of major port reform legislation in 2003-2004;
• Significant contribution to preparation of the Victorian Ports Strategic Framework published in November 2004;
• Significant contribution to the development and implementation of Safety and Environment Management Plans for all Victorian ports, including joint authorship of SEMP Ministerial Guidelines published in May 2005;
• Key developer of the Melbourne Port@L Strategy released in 2006;
• Development and drafting of the Victorian Freight Network Strategy – Freight Futures released in December 2008
• Key contributor in the development and release of Port Futures released in August 2009
• Involved in the development of various amendments to the Port policy settings related to supporting the Channel Deepening Project

Andrew demonstrated his exceptional contribution to the industry together with the leadership skills that this Award is designed to encourage and promote.
