CILTA National Council & AGM PDF Print E-mail

The Annual General Meeting and National Council of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia met in Newcastle on the 23rd of October to discuss the previous financial year and outline the key focus areas for the association and business strategies over the next three years.

The AGM saw Howard Croxon inducted as the new National Chairman for the next two year period for CILTA after John West decided not to restand. Howard thanked John West for his determination and dedication as National Chairman for 2006 to 2009.

Howard addressed the Sectional delegates by informing them that he wanted to see CILTA established as the "go to" association for Government and Industry parties.

He also mentioned that attracting and driving new membership (individual and corporate) was an important objective and would only be achieved by the support of all Sections. He added that a further objective was to provide effective communication to CILTA members about activities and events in the T&L industry.

And lastly to develop educational and training programs for its members. This was supported by all delegates and from here a small working group has now been formed to examine the opportunities for CILTA to develop such industry based programs.

Hal Morris (newly CEO) presented a number of opportunities he saw for CILTA. A key issue he outlined was the provision of services to members as well as working with relevant groups in the development of the T&L industry.

Nicole Comerford was introduced in her role as the Marketing and Sponsorship Manager. Nicole’s primary role will be to align the opportunities of CILTA and key corporations to grow corporate partnerships and income along with developing and implement Membership Servicing strategies and Marketing and Communication strategies to have better customer service and increase CILTA’s brand awareness.

An important item which was raised at the National Council was the ongoing growth and integration of the “Accelerate” group. As this seems to be a growing group of young professionals in the T&L industry, more needs to be done to service these individuals and integrate them more with CILTA Sectional management so as not to run and operate on their own. It was said that these individuals are the feeding pool/ future of CILTA. More work will need to be done as part of this membership group to re-align with CILTA business direction.

Each section reported on their past financial year activities. It was clear that networking is a key value for members and all Sections are active in planning and undertaking industry based event and activities for the New Year.

A key point raised by the Sections was the opportunity to leverage off products and services developed by other members of the CILT International family.

A highlight of the National Council meeting was the announcement that CILT Australia will bid to host the International Council Convention in 2011. Sydney will compete to be host and are currently developing a bid presentation of which they await a favourable outcome. The announcement will be made in Malta 2010.
