There is now a widespread recognition that supply chain management is a fundamental business activity directly linked to success or failure in the marketplace. Research has shown that companies who invest in supply chain excellence tend to achieve above-average growth and profitability.
However, in today’s turbulent business environment it is becoming evident that supply chains need to be far more agile and responsive than was ever the case in the past. In addition, a number of significant underlying trends are literally re-shaping the supply chain landscape. These trends include: changing demographics; supply/demand imbalances for critical resources and the arrival of new manufacturing technologies which will challenge the status quo. At the same time growing pressures on logistics infrastructure are impacting supply chain efficiencies. The combined effect of these trends will necessitate a re-think of strategy and a re-engineering of global supply chains.
In this wide-ranging presentation Professor Martin Christopher, an acknowledged thought-leader in logistics and supply chain management, will explore the opportunities and the threats presented by these mega-trends and will suggest some ways forward.
